Drinks & Snacks for a Productive (But Not Over-Caffeinated) Remote Work Session

Working remotely from a café can be the perfect productivity boost. However, too much caffeine can leave you anxious, dehydrated or just plain burnt out. If you’re spending hours at your local spot, here's how to fuel your focus with smarter drinks and snacks.

1. Swap the second espresso for herbal or low-caffeine teas

Instead of your usual double espresso or sugar-loaded latte, consider switching to herbal or low-caffeine teas. Options like peppermint, chamomile or rooibos are naturally caffeine-free and can help you stay calm and hydrated during long work sessions.

If you still want a caffeine boost, green tea or matcha is a great choice — both offer a gentler lift and contain L-theanine, which promotes focus and reduces jitteriness.

2. Go for iced options, but skip the syrup

Cold drinks are especially helpful in warmer weather, but keep an eye on what’s in them. Iced matcha or unsweetened iced teas are great alternatives that offer refreshment without the sugar spike.

If you love cold brew, consider asking for a half shot or a decaf version with oat or almond milk. It still feels like a treat, without sending your heart racing.

3. Stay hydrated and always order water

This may sound basic, but water is your best friend when working remotely. Dehydration can sneak up on you, especially if you're sipping caffeine for hours. Don’t be shy. Most cafés are happy to bring over a glass of tap or sparkling water.

Even better, ask for a carafe to keep at your table so you don’t have to keep interrupting your workflow.

4. Power snacks that won’t crash your energy

Instead of grabbing a sugary pastry or oversized muffin, try to stick with simple, whole-food snacks that give you sustained energy.

A banana with a spoonful of peanut butter, a yogurt bowl with granola or even a sandwich can keep you feeling full without that mid-afternoon crash.

Bonus tip: Choose cafés with calm vibes

Your snacks and drinks help, but so does the space. Look for spots with:
- Natural light
- Comfortable seating
- Strong Wi-Fi (of course)
Final thoughts
Working from a café doesn’t have to mean five cappuccinos deep and jittery fingers. With the right drinks and mindful snacking, you can stay productive, focused and still enjoy the café vibe.
